Ever Wonder Why We Wear Little Tank Tops? March 2, 2009 Category: General |
What is up with guys and little tank tops? I have been wearing the old school 80's workout tank tops since I was 14. You know, the ones that hang off your body and have the thin straps over your shoulders... yeah you know what I am talking about! I wish I had a picture because I was a skinny little twig wearing them and it was really really funny (picture of me and Chris, what I used to too like). But I didn't care! There are a couple of reasons why fitness freaks such as me, wear them. There is the obvious, but not necessarily true, reason of "Hey look at me I'm so sexy!!". I don't workout to show off my muscles to everyone in the gym. I don't even talk to anyone when I workout unless I know them. When I was younger wearing the big tank top gave me a goal of, that's what I need to fill out. So as I grew bigger, it was very motivational when looking in the mirror at the gym to see the tank top "shrinking". Secondly, it is very important to see the muscles you are working on. I tell my clients all the time to roll up their sleeves and see the biceps/triceps working! You will mentally focus on the muscles moving and growing. Focus is very important and if you can see muscles moving, growing, veins bulging, you will have more focus and motivation to work harder.(picture with long sleeves, picture with tanktop) Even if your goal is body fat loss/ toning, when you see lines you have never seen before they can be really motivating on a day when you are not feeling so hot. Why even wear a shirt then? I have worked out with no shirt on and I must admit it is very distracting. For example, if I am performing bicep curls in front of the mirror with no shirt on; seeing all the muscles in my chest and abs move is very distracting. I lose focus on my biceps and the set is not as intense as it normally is. It is very important when lifting to be able to focus on the muscles you are working on. This helps bring more energy/power to that area because you are concentrating on it. Do I have a reason for wearing certain tank tops on certain days? Yes and here they are! Red: This tank-top I wear on chest day because the straps are very thin and I can see all of my chest muscles activating when performing flies and presses. Blue: This tank top I wear on back and shoulder day because the straps are once again very thin and I can see all of my back and shoulders when performing each exercise. White or Yellow: I usually these on leg day because it fits me normally and doesn't distract me from focusing on my legs. Black: I wear this tank top on my arms day because it fits like a normal tank top and I can see all of my arm muscles and very little of my back and chest when performing the exercises. Also, I tend to turn bright red when I lift arms and red and black are my two favorite colors. haha IMPORTANT: When working out it is very important to always have a positive attitude and reach for your goals. Don't ever let anyone tell you what to wear in the gym. Well, keep it reasonable people!! You know what is appropriate and if you are just looking for attention we will know because you will be talking and flexing more than lifting the weights! But at least you will have very strong jaw muscles haha |

I've been training pretty hard for the past year or so and began noticing that my gains had really slowed down. Plus, I had been struggling to cut just a little more body fat. I had a "diet" mentality and it was (as I later learned) counter-productive. I felt I was eating very...
Scott has been a good friend of mine for quite a few years now. So when I came to him seeking nutritional advice, he was quick to guide me to his meal plan. It became the precise tool I was needing. I was able to get my calories exactly where I needed them to be. It helped me see...
